Call for Papers

The Organizing Committee invites executives, professionals, investigators, consultants and suppliers of the mining industry to participate in Argentina Mining 2010 to present original, practical and interesting works that reflect the function of mining and its related processes.

As publicly known, Argentina Mining is the premium international meeting of the mining sector in our country and it takes place biennially since 1996. This new edition will be held entirely in San Juan, one of the most important provinces in relation to mining in Argentina.

The present reality of the mining activity in Argentina, analysis of the most important projects, the last trends and future challenges. How Argentina plays into the Latin American mining sector and how other countries face this economic activity.

Markets and International Outlook

The outlook for commodities, especially precious metals, the performance of mining companies in the stock market, as well as the trends in exploration world-wide.

Exploration in Argentina

Argentina has a great geological potential, from metalliferous and industrial minerals, to ornamental and application rocks, such as ore deposits of copper, gold, silver, lithium, potash, iron, nickel, borates and tin. Hear directly from executives of mining companies currently exploring in the country about their exploration plans and strategies, main projects and experiences working in Argentina.

Environment, Communities, Communication and CSR

Which are the best practices in these areas, including theoretical aspects based on last trends, as well as case-studies, companies that distinguish themselves by including strong CSR programs, environmental certifications or communication programs to the community.

Mines in development and in Operation

During the last few years, Argentina has witnessed the start up of a large amount of mines. Beginning the development of a project entails a series of challenges, and each one of them is special. Practical examples from some of the projects in development or mines in operation, each one focused on different perspective, from mineral processing, safety, to specific operation processes.

Economic Geology

The most common types of deposits in Argentina, from epithermal and copper porphyries, to industrial minerals and minerlas used in agriculture such as potash, lithium, borates, limestone or gypsum, up to energy metals such as uranium. Exploration methods, Statistical analysis for resource estimation and evaluation of ore deposits.

Legal and Economic-Financial Aspects

Which are the main subjects to consider when operating in Argentina from the legal-tax point of view; how to manage complex processes such as the VAT refund for exploration expenses, how withholdings affect the models of financial evaluation of projects, and the access to finance for projects in Argentina.

ABSTRACT PRESENTATIONS

Professionals with interest in participating as speakers are invited to submit a summary of their proposed contribution, no longer than half a page, in English or Spanish, until February 26, 2010 to info@argentinamining.com. The summary should be in MS Word, include a title, full name of the author or authors, language in which the presentation would be given, as well as position, company, business address, phone and email address.

Should the final paper be accepted, it must be  sent to info@argentinamining.com no later than June 14, 2010. Contributions shall have approximately an extension of 5 to 35 pages, be original from the author/s, be written in English or Spanish, have a summary in both languages, and be presented in .DOC format. For the fonts, arial 11 is suggested. Figures and tables can be included as graphics or images in .JPG format or another one compatible with Windows.

During the event, each lecture will be showcased as Powerpoint presentation, supported by simultaneous translation and multimedia equipment (projector and screen). The presentations will have a duration of 20-25 minutes. Questions will be made at the end of each module.

Summaries will be printed in the conference catalog, published in the website and full contributions will be recorded in a CD Room. After the event, presentations will be published in our website to be available to all attendants.

DEADLINES

December 1, 2009: Call for papers begins.

February 26, 2010: Presentation of summaries and CV.

April 30, 2010: Notice of acceptance to authors.

June 14, 2010: Submission of full papers.
