Latin Exploration 2009 was held successfully

The first version of Latin Exploration 2009, conference on Exploration in Latin America, was held with great success past Tuesday 29 September. The conference is a new event of the organizers of the Argentina Mining Convention .

The conference was attended by more than 120 visitors among executives of mining companies, goods/service suppliers for mining exploration, and other professionals of the sector. A dozen of local and international speakers presented diverse topics of interest for companies with exploration activities in Latin America.

Among the conclusions of an intense day of lectures, it was particularly valued the opportunity of sharing experiences between countries, hearing about the reality of working in different countries from the very same actors, and the possibility to identify some of the challenges of the region.

In all of the countries showcased, the common problem for mining is spreading information and its social acceptance. There is a need to be proactive, to cooperate between industry and government, so mining can share its truth and strengthen the relationship between communities and governments.

The region has great potential since it is capable of producing the minerals the world will need over the next 15 years. Success lies principally on each country being able to implement long-term policies and adopt a proactive and decisive governmental attitude, two variables that will encourage the arrival of investments and the development of the industry, with special defense of exploration, since it is the first step to the sustainable use of natural resources.

The event was sponsored by Anglogold Ashanti, Silver Standard Resources and Minera Triton, and it received the support of GEMERA (Group of Mining Companies of Exploration of the Argentine Republic) and the endorsement of the Embassies of Canada and Australia.

The second edition of the conference will be held on 28 – 29 October, 2010.
