SALTA, ARGENTINA. September 5, 2016. Argentina Mining 2016 will be held for the third time in Salta, between September 7 and 9, at the Salta Convention Center. The convention offers a 3-day conference program, exhibition of mining projects, products and services of main suppliers, and multiple networking opportunities. Its 20th anniversary arrives at a key moment for Argentinean mining.
20 years ago, the first edition
of Argentina Mining took place in Mendoza, in August 1996 with a framework of a
handful of mining companies seeking opportunities in a new exploration target.
During this period, the sector had booming times and others not so easy. A
record number of mines were built, and Argentina added production of gold,
silver, copper, among others; thousands of people found employment opportunities,
new businesses were created, international firms settled and Argentina’s mining
industry grew at an unprecedented rate.
Then came some not so happy times
that were a litmus test for many; now, the mining industry in Argentina
prepares for rebirth, quite like a phoenix. The government of Mauricio Macri
has taken fundamental measures to restore confidence since taking office in
December 2015; the world of international finance has been quick to note and a
renewed interest is already noticeable. A number of mergers and acquisitions
have already taken place, including the purchase of Goldrock Mines (owner of the
Lindero project) by Fortuna Silver, a long-awaited good news for the province
of Salta.
It is worth special mention the
interest aroused by lithium in north-western Argentina, part of the so-called “Lithium
Triangle”. In the last 10 months some 20 to 30 companies have initiated or
finalized negotiations, such as Millennial Lithium and the acquisition of
Pastos Grandes project; new firms have started trading and others are
evaluating projects. This is the biggest increase in the last 20 years and
shows that investor appetite is directly proportional to the establishment of
state policies that promote development, and the existence of legal stability
that allows predictability in managing new initiatives.
Argentina Mining 2016 is a clear
example of this resurgence. Over 200 pre-registered companies, including 30 sponsors, more than 60 stands and 45 speakers- and the expectation of receiving
some 1,500 people, with significant international participation, mainly from
Canada and Australia, countries that have historically invested in the
development of Argentineans mining projects. Argentina mining 2016 will show
the world that Argentina is again becoming an investment destination.
Argentina is a country that has mineral deposits of precious metals, especially gold and silver, base metals, such as copper, nickel, zinc and lead, industrial minerals such as lithium and potash; coal, iron, uranium, among many others. A large number of projects had significant progress in the last two decades, even defining resources and some even reserves before being abandoned; others have been maintained with minimal investment. The ability to identify investment opportunities is real and is already underway.
"This edition is definitely
special for the event. Not only it reached 20 years of history, a milestone for
an event of this nature, but we are also witnessing a new beginning for the
activity in the country. We hope that all the promises are fulfilled and
Argentina finally launch mining, becoming once in engine development the
country needs and the world expects", said Nivaldo Rojas, President of
Argentina Mining, organizers of the event.
Argentina Mining 2016 will be
